Olamide

Despite the recent ‘No To Be Broadcast’ clamp down on Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission, NBC, the song has continued to garner momentum on social media.

Reports had it that the NBC notified all radio and television stations across the country of the proscription.

But on Sunday, Olamide took to his Instagram page to share a video of a female boxer dancing to ‘Shaku Shaku,’ the dance steps associated with the song.

Recall that on January 20, 2018, filmmaker and communications expert, Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki had made an online video asking the NBC to ‘ban’ Olamide’s song saying it promoted drug abuse. He also called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commisison (EFCC) and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to confront Olamide because he termed the song ‘vulgar.’

“The NDLEA can’t fight drug abuse if Olamide Adedeji’s “SCIENCE STUDENT” (Kosewe Kosegbo) is celebrating drug use,” wrote Obaseki.

“Let’s say #NoToDRUGS. Pls if you have a Child, a conscience, a Young One, SHARE TILL THEY HEAR!”

Comedian Bovi writes Dorcas Fapson on alleged rape

Bovi and Dorcas

Comedian Bovi, has sent a public statement to actress Dorcas Shola Fapson, speaking about the incident which she accused a Taxify driver of attempted rape and kidnapping.

Describing the actress as a friend, Bovi said it was easy for people to have mixed feelings on the issue as many do not have a close relationship with her.

He said via Instagram: ‘Dear Dorcas, ‘I’m compelled to write you a public letter because I have an overwhelming urge to participate in the public discuss of your recent episode. As a friend, I will feel I failed you by remaining quiet while a section of society bashed you these past few days. But rather than defend you to a group of people who don’t know you personally and who have made up their minds even in the face of overwhelming evidence, allow me to publicly tell you about your experience, what you did right and what you should have done differently.

‘First off, your biggest crime in all of this was not fitting into the stereotype! You’ve been dragged in many sections for being bold and courageous under fire. While the taxi driver was taken you to a wrong destination, just because your voice was firm and assertive, it seemed as though nothing troubling was happening. While the driver restrained you from coming down from the taxi, you pepper sprayed him and your voice and resolve was still not broken. This too doesn’t fit the stereotype. If it was a scene out of a movie, the director would probably ask you to scream, cry, be shaken and even beg to be let go. In the eyes of many, you were too bold, too calm, too calculated for a lady. To this I say a big kudos. Don’t stop. Don’t change. Because the fact remains, as far as he took you to a destination against your will in the middle of the night, you were abducted. That is a crime punishable by law.

‘Somewhere, some girl is inspired by your boldness. Next time though, it will be wiser to get down from the car as quickly as possible. Do not take chances or hesitate. Safety first should be your watch word. Cynthia hesitated in Festac. It didn’t end well.

‘If you had a PR expert by your side the next day, just before you posted those videos explaining what actually transpired, he/she would have worn you a very thick cardigan and wrapped you in a blanket. You would have been asked to speak in a “victim tone”. All this would have been channelled to swing the narrative in your favor. Kudos to you, you weren’t trying to milk the situation, neither were you thinking of the mileage those videos will accumulate. You see, perception is reality.’

Actress Dorcas Shola-Fapson had revealed that she narrowly escaped being kidnapped and raped by a Taxify driver, Henry Chukwuemeka, on Wednesday, January, 24, 2018, and had to use her pepper spray to defend herself before escaping.

Coming after the just concluded 60th Grammy Awards which held on Sunday, TV Host Emma Ugolee, who spoke on how popular musician Jay Z had eight nominations, has praised Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, aka 2Baba for being consistent with his craft, while urging other artistes quitting to top up their game and focus more on how they can make their brand more valuable to the public.

He said on Instagram: “Your time is up when you say so… 20 years ago on this night and I mean the Grammy night. Shawn Corey Carter had an after party of a life time. Why? Jay Z the name by which he was called up stage had just won his 1st Grammy award with a win with the album Vol. 2 Hard Knock life. Finally he got here with his 3rd attempt at a studio album. He kept pushing after the 1st Album “Reasonable doubt” was released in 1996. In these 2years, alot of rappers who had come on the scene had vanished.

“Not Jay Z. He had only just gotten started. He kept an incredibly intense level of focus and flexibility in such a beautiful mix that had us all watch him turn into a Billionaire entrepreneur yet a hungry lyricist, A show biz boss who knew when to speak against the president and when to take a slap from his sister in law. A news magnet who kept a cool head”.

He likened 2Baba to a brand like Jay Z when he said: “Reminds Nigerians of their own 2Baba who also started his musical journey in the same year 1996. He has also kept the right mix together to keep longevity. Hard work and a level head. Humility and focus breeding consistency, with these 2 lies your answer as to the question? When is your time up? Your time is up just when you decide it is.

“No market forces, new music/movie/model/TV anchor/comedian/fashion designer or business sensations, Rules or Regulations can force you out of your spot if you do not give in to being displaced. You can insist on the feel of fine wine & enjoy improvement with time. It is possible to keep going regardless of what hits you. Like these 2, you might need to survive some really low times and personal losses but moving is a must. So please look for any other excuse outside “My time was up”. Sunny Ade has no free weekend after almost half a century of stardom and Dolly Parton just recorded her 44tth album and you say your time is up?”

A midst pomp and pageantry, one of Nigeria’s finest bankers, Mr. Yemi Adeola, outgoing MD/CEO of Sterling Bank, was celebrated by staff, family, friends and well-wishers on the occasion of his 59th birthday at the imposing Sterling Towers edifice on the Marina.

The high octane surprise birthday celebration totally caught the cerebral and amiable Chief Executive Officer unawares. It was indeed a befitting valedictory birthday celebration for the gentleman highly regarded within the Sterling Bank family as a role model, friend, father figure and big boss.

His office was decorated overnight to ensure that nothing goes wrong as Mr. Adeola is a consistent early bird, leading by example when it comes to punctuality. The bank also leveraged its first of the type in the banking industry internal radio station, Radio One, to celebrate the banking guru. The ‘Big Boss’ was pleasantly surprised on his way to his office by the heartfelt shout-outs from family, friends and all cadre of the bank’s employee. It was a show of love for Mr. Adeola all the way from the front desk on the ground floor to his 16th Floor office which became a Mecca of sorts for excited employees.

Indeed, it was a remarkable day to remember in the life of the ex-lecturer-turned-banker who has steered the wheel of progress of  Sterling Bank for about 10 years as the wishes and accolades kept pouring in from far and wide.

His darling wife who was actively involved in the surprise party plan, turned up in his office at about the same time with the Nigerian Footballing Legend, Jay jay Okocha, to wish the astute banker a very happy birthday. Mr. Adeola surely had a birthday to remember.

The Oga at the top was genuinely surprised at the show of love. In his words, “You guys really surprised me, I was not even meant to be at work today as I was scheduled to travel out of Lagos, but my family insisted I do not”.

Deolu Adeboye celebrates

As the eldest child of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and one of the most influential religious figures in the country, Adeolu Adeboye has pretty big shoes to fill. Every word or action of his is taken as reflective of his upbringing. And this extends to celebrations. Hence it was no surprise when the CEO of Wisemen Apparel and Duchess turned a year older and celebrated in a low-key fashion.

Not for him a grand and expensive shindig which may be construed as a frivolous display of vanity. Not for him also the preening blares of vuvuzelas and klaxons crowing of his achievements. Rather, he spent the day in the company of his close family, thanking and praising God for another year added to a wonderful life.

Unable to resist the allure of power, many politicians hang on in the public eye long after their time has come and gone, until they lose their former tag of visionaries and shrink into the caricatures of their former selves.

Former Ekiti State governor, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, is one of the rare specimens who willingly quit the stage when the ovation was loudest. Now enjoying a well-earned repose after a lifetime of service, the charming former governor was toasted by none other than Sir Olu Okeowo as he turned 60.

The billionaire property magnate threw an ambitious barbecue dinner in honour of his close friend. The Palacio de Okeowo, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos residence of the moneybag, became a conclave of the high and mighty who thronged the place to felicitate with one of their own.

Among the eminent Nigerians who graced the silver jubilee of the ex-governor were the Aare of Lagos Rasak Akanni Okoya and wife, Shade; Chairman, Doyin Group, Chief Samuel Adedoyin; former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba; previous and current MDs of Access Bank, Aigboje Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe, among others.

Oyin Adeyemi’s rising profile

While most people struggle to make an impact in their chosen careers, Still Earth Construction boss, Oyin Adeyemi, can count herself a conqueror of three worlds, having dominated in the realms of construction, real estate and lately, finance. The flurry of awards coming her way is nothing but a recompense.

The charismatic lady was recently honoured for governance and service delivery at the 14th Africa Leadership Development Conference and Awards in faraway Ghana; an accolade that puts her firmly in the upper echelon of achievers that have emerged from the African continent.

Starting off in banking, Oyin wasted no time in conquering that terrain. But rather than glory in that accomplishment, she marched on to the realm of fashion, and in no time made a name for herself. Not yet satisfied, she dared to walk where angels dread by moving into the male-dominated world of construction. The rest, as they say, is history.

As she reduced one roadblock after another to cinders, her company, Still Earth, grew in leaps and is now one of the big players in the industry with revenue running into billions of naira. There is no gainsaying that Oyin has worked her way into commercial stardom and has become a powerful symbol of hope and possibilities for women everywhere.

Those whose lives are guided by the principle of tit-for-tat can learn one or two things from Hon. Rotimi Makinde. Although the former member of the House of Representatives representing Ife Federal Constituency lost his bid for re-election at the polls, rather than feeling bitter about the electorate, he has embraced them and has been changing their lives with empowerment programmes.

The actor-turned-politician has no time to spare brooding over the past. Instead, he is making the people see their errors, showing them how much more they would have benefited if they had returned him to the lower chamber.

The latest empowerment programme of the dude who recently veered into radio broadcasting with the launch of Oodua FM will take place in the coming weeks. He is set to give back to the masses in Osun State, especially in Ife and environs, in a big way.

Plans are in top gear to ensure that dozens of women and children leave the programme happier than they came. Some top dignitaries in the state have been drafted to make the event a success.

If the hope is for the country to one day become a nation of tribes united by love and complementing one another, then the families of Kano and Oyo state governors are playing their part to make this dream a reality. Fatima, daughter of Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Idris, the only son of Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, will be getting married soon.

The two lovebirds from two ethnic divides only revealed their relationship to the public a few months ago. And since the revelation, they have been speeding at a thousand miles per hour on the road to matrimonial bliss.

Their engagement ceremony in November was a grand affair witnessed by 11 governors. And just a few days ago, the Ajimobi clan was out in full force as they stormed Kano State Government House to perform the Lefe ceremony for the bride. They left no stone unturned in their bid to impress the bride and her family as they came fully loaded.

The bride was a picture of bliss as she received 27 customised Louis Vuitton travel boxes from her imminent in-laws.

MEN CHASE ME BECAUSE I’M WELL-ENDOWED

Nollywood actress and producer, Chioma Okoye, doesn’t shy away from controversy and in this interview with JOE AGBRO JR., she talks about her works, charity and how she is proud of her body. Excerpts:

Late last year, you launched a TV series, ‘Anyanwu Ututu’ which was basically to promote Igbo culture and tradition. How has the reception been like?

Very great. It’s as if people are waiting for such kind of movies. People are calling and asking about the TV series, when it would start running.

Are those just TV stations in the Igbo-speaking states in the country?

No, we’re just starting with the Igbo speaking states in the country first. So, we’re opening a Youtube channel for people in the Diaspora.

Talking about Youtube channel, is it more profitable than making DVDs or taking your projects to cinemas?

All of them have their own advantage. Youtube is at your own personal convenience So, it’s not as if it’s a cinema where you have a time frame that if you don’t get to meet such time, it’s over. So, Youtube is accessible at any time, any day as long as you have time and you have data to watch. But we’re creating a channel for ‘Anyanwu Ututu’ for all our Igbo content because right now, I’m investing on Igbo content, Igbo films alone.

Between producing movies in English and producing in Igbo, what’s the difference?

Producing in Igbo is a little bit difficult because every Igbo is different. My Igbo is different from Mr B’s Igbo. I’m from Anambra State and Anambra does not have one Igbo. So that’s why ‘Anyanwu Ututu’ is trying to discover different dialects because Igbo has 623 dialects. You can imagine. I’m from Anambra but somebody else from Anambra can be speaking a different dialect and I don’t get to understand what that person is saying. We’re discovering dialect by dialect and the series was shot in Omabala dialect. And Omabala is made up of 28 villages. So after Omabala, we’re going to another community again.

Aside being in Nollywood as an actress and producer, you’ve also earned a reputation of raising funds for ill Nollywood actors. What was the motivation for these?

Where I came out to help sick Nollywood colleagues was during Leo Mezie’s kidney issue because Leo is my friend. And when I heard about the incident, I was so shocked. And I believe one thing, when you’re friends with somebody, in times of need, you should be there for the person. I don’t have money so the only thing I did was to have an agreement with him, ‘give me the consent to raise funds for you.’ And he said, okay, let’s give it a try. And I used my own ability and strategy to raise money for him. And in 10 days, we got the money we want.

Then after that, Obi Madubogwu was the next one that was called upon. I tried to shy away from it but people kept telling me, ‘no, no, no. This is just charity work. You don’t have to shy away from it.’ I said no, I don’t want everybody to start calling me because almost 80 per cent of people have problem in Nollywood. So, I said let me just do Madubogwu. In 10 days, I had good result. They now called me for Prince James Uche that has been there in public for over two years asking for funds. On the first day of the outburst, we made about six million naira.

But I felt bad when we raised the money, got the visa, three days for him (Uche) to travel, he gave up. I’m not happy because his own weighed me down so much because at the end, I got to meet his family, his children. The pain was much for me so I couldn’t carry on to raise any money for people. So, even as much as people keep calling me on the phone, I keep telling them no, no, no, I can’t do it.

As you’ve showed you’re a good fund raiser, do you have any vision going into politics to right the wrongs?

Oh yes, I have but not now. That’s why I intended to start from my community. Let me start empowering people because the movie I shot, I didn’t use Nollywood stars much. In Nollywood, we have 24 actors from Omabala but I just picked only six. I gave the rest opportunity. I called for audition for two days. And we did rehearsals for three weeks. And we shot for two months seven days. Now, people know me from my community. Before I will now go to 20, 30 communities, people will know me. So, if I’m coming for any position, they know I’m coming for the masses because it’s high time we youths came onboard.

Big Brother Naija has started and there are controversies about whether it’s good programme for youths. Do you watch the show and what’s your take on it?

I don’t watch Big Brother Naija but I’m an entertainer. Anything that entertains people, I don’t kick against it. If I’m not an entertainer, if you ask me, I’ll now say, ‘it’s very wrong, it’s not educational, it does not add any value to the children.” That’s the irony of life for you. It seems as if negative things works than positive things. But the problem is with we the Nigerians. You might have a good project and go and meet companies, they’ll just turn you down.

Hollywood has embraced the #MeToo, kicking against sexual harassment. From your own career in Nollywood, would you say sexual harassment happens and is something to be worried about?

Hmm… It’s increasing every day, day by day. So, it’s everywhere not just Nollywood. You cannot separate sexual harassment from your daily business. In every business, it’s there.

 Have you had close-up experience?

Me? Maybe because I’m not easy-going person, that’s why I’ve not experienced that but people have chased me now. I’m a fine girl. I’m well-endowed so I see people that admire me on a daily basis. Any day I go out, people chase me. So they don’t harass me, they chase me because I’m well-endowed. God blessed me with everything a woman needs to be a woman in a very pronounced way. There is nothing I will wear that will hide my endowments.

So, how do you handle some unwanted attention?

I give them the number of my boyfriend because if I tell you no, you’ll still continue.

There’s also this trend of sex dolls for men which is hitting Nigeria whereas women use sex toys. What’s your take?

We’re at end times so everything goes. If men say they want sex dolls, they’ll have sex dolls. If women say they want their own, they have it too. Do whatever that makes you happy.

Can you date a man that uses a sex doll?

Hmm… Unless the man is blind. For me as a woman to be in his life and he’s thinking of sex doll. No sex doll is finer than me. You can never see it now. My type is not two in the market. Before you see a woman that has big breasts, big hips, tiny waist, it’s difficult. You can barely count people that have that kind of shape that when you come out, you cause commotion. So, if that man has me in his life and he’s thinking of sex doll, then that means he’s not normal.

Last year, gist went around that you prayed for a husband on your birthday. How close is that prayer to being answered?

Prayers are meant for God to answer. If I say I’m praying for a husband does not mean I don’t have suitors. It’s the one of my choice, that’s what I’m asking God for. I don’t want to marry a 419 man, I don’t want to marry a drug man. I want to marry a man that has a very good business that can foot my bill.

And is that man currently in your life?

I’ve not seen the one that can foot my bill yet. I’m still waiting for the one that would foot my bill.

When you say ‘foot your bill’ what do you really mean?

Hmm. What I mean is that I’ve dated rich men. They have spoilt me. It’s affecting me now as a young girl. So, I’ve not seen a man that can foot my bill. Right now, I can’t stay without light. It’s not possible. Instead of me to stay without light, let me not eat. Right now, I don’t play with my three square meals. And there are some foods that I don’t joke with. You must give it to me. No matter anything, I make sure those food are there.

What kind of food are we talking about?

(laughs) Don’t worry about the kind of food. Do you want to pursue the potential suitor that is going to come? Do you want to scare him away?

Well, maybe prepare him

I eat organic food. Everything I eat is organic, natural.

And expensive

Hmm… even my soap, my cream is expensive, are organic.

Are you saying acting doesn’t really pay your bills?

I’m a producer. I make money myself too. And now I’m venturing into another business soon. I want to start another business before the year runs out.

What’s that?

I want to have a hair line business.

 Making hair products?

Yes. That’s why I would advise every actor, every filmmaker to have businesses. Filmmakers are very lazy. The most lazy people I’ve seen in the world are filmmakers, especially in Nollywood. Aside movies, they don’t have any other thing they’re doing. It is even now you hear people say they sell clothes. What they do is just pay courtesy visits to rich men, get some ‘thank you’ for coming. That’s what they survive with, then going on Facebook, chasing girls that have money and live abroad. And the women looking for men that are very rich who can take care of them.

But you also talked about looking for a rich man

Hmmm… when I say I’m looking for a rich man, it does not mean I’m not working. I act, I make movies and now I’m entering into another business again. I’m looking for a rich man not a billionaire, an average rich man. The person must go to school. But before the year runs out, I should be saying ‘I do’ because I’ve found one

Congratulations. Recently you posted a picture on Instagram where you wore black gym clothes and captioned it ‘Body Goal’. What were you celebrating?

I’m trying to lose some flesh in some areas I don’t want. So, I restrain and I go to the gym. I’ve cut down my eating habits. So, I eat very healthy organic foods. In the morning, I might just have lettuce, in the afternoon, I’ll just have fish and vegetable, in the evening, I’ll just have plantain and lots of vegetables. So, I’m building a banging body – the body that you’ll see, you’ll turn.

You’re not looking at a faster route like surgery.

Surgery is not bad. It’s like recreating yourself. Well, I don’t condemn people that do liposuction. It’s the body that you’re trying to modify. Or maybe because I’m not in a hurry to get the desire that I want because I’m not badly created. I’m well-endowed. So, with or without surgery, if I come out, people turn around. Just because human beings that we are, we are never satisfied. We always want something extra. I can do without surgery, I can do without exercise, I’m perfect the way I am.

There is no gainsaying the fact that EbonyLife boss, Mo Abudu, is a woman who does not rest on her oars. The dust generated by the record-setting world premiere of The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai is yet to settle, but the woman has already moved on to her latest blockbuster movie project.

Penultimate Wednesday will remain indelible in the memory of the Erelu of Lagos, Princess Abiola Sherifat Dosunmu, as the day she was celebrated by the man she cherishes and adores. Her friend and former President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo, treated her to a superlative post-70th birthday party at the Green Heritage Resort, Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The occasion was graced by close family members and friends of Erelu Dosunmu, who clocked 70 last July and had marked the event with a week-long activities, which climaxed with a party that had juju music maestro, King Sunny Ade, on the bandstand.

However, her 70th birthday celebration wouldn’t have held any significance had Obasanjo not hosted a party in her honour. And while the invitation cards sent out to guests had indicated that the celebration was at the behest of Obasanjo and his wife, Bola, the latter was conspicuously absent at the party.

However, her absence did nothing to dim the gaiety of the party. The convivial atmosphere of the venue provided the much needed vista of fanfare for the high profile guests to mingle and connect.

Obasanjo and Dosunmu are as close. Their friendship was sealed many years ago during Erelu Dosunmu’s marriage to the late Ambassador Deinde Fernandez, her second husband, having previously been married to Major Tunde Elegbede, the father of her two eldest children, but the marriage ended with Elegbede’s death.

Ambassador Fernandez, who died in 2016, was married to Erelu Dosunmu for more than 20 years, and the union produced a daughter, Antoinette Oyinkansola Fernandez. Their marriage, though tumultuous in nature, was a well celebrated affair in the Lagos social firmament over a decade ago, The relationship took more downward slope when Ambassador Fernandez publicly requested that Erelu Dosunmu should drop his name. Consequently, the Lagos princess returned to her maiden name, Dosunmu.
