Sound Sultan, an ambassador of the Lagos City Marathon scheduled to hold on February 10, 2018, has urged everyone to go and register for the race.

He said this as the General Manager for the Lagos City Marathon, Yusuf Alli, disclosed that over 100 top runners from various part of the world are expected to compete for honours in Lagos.

“Across the world, we should have a minimum of 100 top-class runners even though we originally penciled down 84,” he said.

Alli revealed that entries for the 2018 Lagos City Marathon from both home and abroad has been overwhelming especially in the newly-introduced 10km Family Race.

Alli however said that it is not a free for all as only the best and those capable of adding value will be officially invited. “We have raised our game and we are only bringing the best from all over the world, the first criteria we have set is that any athlete that would be invited or given any form of appearance fee should be doing below 2:10mins.”

Alli also expressed optimism that Nigerian athletes should be able to give their counterparts from across the world a run for their money especially with the improved incentives by the organisers.

“I am aware our home groom athletes have been training well, we expect them to improve on what that they did in the first two editions,” Alli said.

“As for the organisers, we have increased their prize monies, so we hope that will spur them to better performance.”

Dethroned Miss Akwa Ibom begs to return

Having been removed as beauty queen following the semi-nude photos she released on her birthday, Miss Abasiodiong Eyo Inyang, is begging to be forgiven and reinstated, while giving reasons for her affirmed negative action.

Miss Inyang, in a public statement titled “An apology letter from my subconscious mind”, said: “In a dilemma such as which I see myself, one would be lost on who to choose between the Devil and Deep Blue Sea. I chose the deep blue sea.

”I, Miss Abasiodiong Eyo Inyang who until my dethronement few days ago was MISS TEENS 2017/18 deeply apologise over my negative behaviour lately. Few days ago I added another year to my age and I thought it wise to embark on a photoshoot, I decided to post my “Half Nude” pictures taken with the clearest of intentions. Not knowing I would be misunderstood!  And so, I apologize to organisers of the “Miss Teens Pageant” whose crown I bore… To teenagers across boards who are victims because of how they dress.

”To Akwa Ibomites who I let down, to parents, family, School and friends, Please, from the deepest recesses of my heart, I plead for forgiveness. The past few days have been hell for me, so depressed and so hard on me regarding the fact I was a serving queen and shouldn’t indulge on negative trends. It hurts and sincerely, I have never felt this way in my entire life, and I just cannot control it. I never meant to bring disrespect to the world of Pageantry or modelling professions, my intention was not to belittle the crown or insult fellow queens. No Far from it.”

She however believes that she deserves a fair hearing before being thrown out.

According to Inyang, “Not being asked WHY but being judged by all without an opportunity for fair hearing, not being allowed to face a panel on my suitability to continue as a TEEN AMBASSADOR before being banished, not being asked the motive behind my actions, Not given a chance/opportunity to atone & plead for forgiveness and being chastised, condemned and treated as an infidel over a mistake I should have been corrected with kid gloves. Notwithstanding, I am sorry for what I did yesterday, I am sorry for what I did today and what I’ll do tomorrow.”

She fears that the impression already created through her action might earn her stigmatization.

“I know I could apologize for days on end but it may not eliminate your thoughts on me but I take solace on God Almighty and on his grace I continually seek strength to endure the pain I currently face.  Knowing my actions upset many tremendously. Please I am deeply sorry. My fault, I am human & not a saint without blame. Dear Friends, Help me if you will, “Not to drown in this Deep Blue Sea”. We Teens must grow, and thrive, for a better tomorrow. As a child raised from a Christian home, I seek for forgiveness from all who I must have offended, I am not entirely perfect so let me not be crucified over an ignorance I now regret. It is my fervent supplications to God that my apology over this sad episode of my life be accepted by all who I offended by this ugly incidence. Once again, I am deeply sorry, please accept me back as I am.”

In a statement made available to Ibom Reporters, President of the Akwa Ibom Teen Forum, Martins Jimmy described the attitude of Inyang as infantile.

According to him, the 20-year-old lady’s birthday photos in which her boobs were visible while she was seen smoking in another, does not uphold the moral standards of the organization.

He announced that the erring queen has been replaced with the First Runner-up.

“That a new Queen, Miss Meggy Linus has been appointed and will be crowned within 48 hours of the release. Miss Linus was the First Runner-up at the 2017 Edition of Mr/Miss Akwa Ibom Teen.

“We sincerely regret any inconvenience the puerile behaviour of our former Queen may have caused the general public, while also urging social media users to refrain from tarnishing the image of Akwa Ibom Teenagers Forum.”

Churchill moves to stop airing of King Tonto reality show

There are indications that Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh may not continue with her much publicized reality show, King Tonto, as her estranged husband, Olakunle Churchill has kicked against the casting of their son in the project.

In an 18-page law suit document filed to stop the show, Churchill said his intention is to protect his son’s rights as captured under the Child Rights Law of Lagos State.

Produced by Linda Ikeji Media Limited, the show features the erstwhile couple’s son, King Andre.

Mr. Churchill is of the opinion that featuring King in that production is solely to exploit his son for financial gain, and expose the life and times of the little boy at a period when he cannot make a decision for himself a the production is basically of adult content.ý

A snippet of the TV show captures Tonto in the OR going through what looks like a surgical procedure, to firm up her breasts.

Recent reports have it that Tonto Dikeh’s new butt cost a whooping N5million. The actress had said via Instagram, after the surgery in a Lagos hospital that the surgery was done on her body due to insecurities.

Tonto Dikeh and Linda Ikeji Limited are yet to make a comment regarding the new development.

Magic returns in Soundcity Awards

After resting the popular Soundcity Music Video Awards in 2010, it is safe to say that the magic of the reward initiative has returned as returned to the creative sector in a bigger way.

Coming from the same company, the Soundcity Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards Festival which held recently at the Eko Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, lived up to the pre-event buzz of the show, introduced in 2016 by Consolidated Media Associates, owners of  Soundcity Africa (Television, Radio and Digital).

At a time when the industry boasts of a few reputable music awards platform that can capture showbiz aptly, SMVP Awards Festival could be said to be a breath of fresh air. More so, as the awards has positioned itself as a Pan African event by going beyond Nigeria to appreciate artistes from other African countries.

Although there was a dedicated red carpet area right outside the convention centre, the floor of the hallway as well as the lobby leading to the events hall were draped in red. Inside, the auditorium was a continuum of glitz and glamour. The lighting and visual randomization spread from the screen on stage to the ceiling and walls, creating a fascinating effect befitting of an event of such caliber. The aesthetically designed stage was T-shaped. This allowed winners of the event to easily waltz into the stage from their seats instead of going through the backstage. Only the performers, host, and award presenters made use of the main entry and exit on stage.

Each music act that came on stage was a delight to watch, not necessarily because they were better performers but the skilled choreographers who accompanied them showcased pulsating displays. From their costumes to their dance steps, they electrified the atmosphere.

While the huge turnout spoke volumes for the organiser’s reach, the massive hall which was transformed to a showground of sorts could not accommodate all. There was barely any unoccupied space in the ground floor of the hall. It was not different upstairs. Even the VIP section which accommodated nominees and celebrities was so packed that some attendees only had room to stand. The female protocol officials had a hard time persuading to move away from blocking the view of those seated. But their pleas fell on deaf ears. It took the intervention of security personnel to convince them to either squat or leave. This respite was however short-lived. Once the guards left, they resumed their position. At this point, the female ushers gave up.

The SMVP Awards Festival is a testimonial to the professionalism of the CMA helmsman Tajudeen Adepetu. For five days, Adepetu and his team worked tirelessly at the venue to achieve the desired result. Carpenters, sound technicians, event planners, stage designers gathered at the site daily to transform the purlieu. The walls of the hallway leading to the main hall were covered with design of the nominees.

No doubt, Adepetu threw everything into the ring to have a spectacular show. This was largely made possible by three major brands, Guinness, United Bank of Africa (UBA) and Coca-Cola that threw their weight behind the ceremony.

There was so much to behold of performances by Skales and his sexily-dressed female dancers; Small Doctor who came on stage with his own group of dancers dressed in red football jerseys and shorts as he rendered his wave-making hit ‘Penalty’; Iyanya who totally stole the night as the only performer who did not rely on the popularity of his songs to entertain the audience but actually immersed himself in his performance; Tiwa Savage who performed with Alternate Sound Live Band, as the DJ cued in her songs: ‘Malo’ featuring Wizkid and ‘All Over’; and 2Baba who performed his popular hits including ‘Gaga Shuffle’, and ended his act by calling on the government and security agencies to put a stop to the recent killings by Fulani herdsmen in his home state, Benue.

While Nigerian artistes had a good outing at the show, South African rappers EMTee and Cassper Nyovest, and Ghanaian act Sarkodie who took home the Best Collaboration Award for ‘Pain Killer’ his collaborative effort with Runtown didn’t fail to excite the audience.

Davido was the man of the night. Right from his arrival, he caused such frenzy that his fans ignored the happenings on stage to focus on him. He won the most number of awards for the night. His 2017 super

hit ‘If’ fetched him two awards ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Video of the Year’. He was also the recipient of the biggest award of the night: ‘African Artiste of the Year’. Maleek Berry also took home two awards for Best New Artiste and Best Pop. Olamide and Wizkid took one award each: Listeners Choice and Digital Artiste of the Year respectively. Tiwa Savage was the only female winner of the night. She took home the award for the Best Female MVP. Other winners of the night include Cassper Nyovest (Best Hip Hop) and Diamond Platnumz (Best Male MVP).

Court orders LTV presenter to cater for ‘abandoned’ daughter

Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, has ordered a Lagos State Television (LTV) presenter, Jare Martins, to pay for the upkeep of his 15-year-old daughter, Maltida Oluwapamilerinayo Martins.

Justice Morenikeji Obadina ordered Martins, the Aare Mayegun of Ogere, Ogun State, to refund Maltida’s mother, Miss Adenike Adeniyi, the sum of N615,100 spent on her education from birth.

The judge made a lump sum award of N2.5million to Adeniyi to be paid by Martin “forthwith” following the “emotional stress” caused her by Martin’s “refusal…to take up parental responsibility for the child.”

She ordered the TV host to take responsibility for Matilda’s education till university level and pay her mother N150,000 every month for their daughter’s upkeep, “until she graduates from University and starts working.”

The judge gave the verdict yesterday while delivering judgment in a suit filed by Adeniyi on November 22, 2016.

The applicant ?averred in her statement of claim that she had a relationship with Martins in 2001, following which she conceived and bore their daughter.

She testified that her pregnancy was the result of Martin’s promise to marry her if she proved her fertility.

Adenike told Justice Obadina that five months after she conceived, Martin, who initially accepted paternity, demanded that she abort the pregnancy. She refused.

According to her, this annoyed the respondent and he assaulted her.

She said: “When I gave birth to the child, my family went to inform the respondent’s family; his family disregarded my mother who went to see them and vowed not to have anything to do with ‘the bastard.’”

Adenike averred that she was incessantly harassed by the respondent’s mother and sister, named Dupe, and she reported the assault at the Iponri Police Station.

The police, she said, advised her to take their child away from the vicinity to avoid further harassment, which she did.

She testified that she had been solely responsible for the feeding, clothing, education, medical care and accommodation ?of the child.

Adenike further stated that she was shamed and labeled “mother of a fatherless child” until an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court ordered a DNA Test.

“The paternity test result came out positive that the respondent is the father of the child,” Adenike said.

The Magistrates’ Court ordered Martin to pay her a N150,000 monthly allowance for the upkeep of the child, but, according to Adenike, the respondent refused to comply.

“I had to sell all my personal belongs and obtained loans to take care of the child till date”

In her ruling, Justice Obadina observed that Martin refused to honour several summons and the hearing notice served on him and that the suit was undefended.

The judge also observed that during an interaction with the child on May 22, 2017, she told the court that she was 15 and met her dad only once in her life, when she was 12 years old.

Justice Obadina held: “Even at Common law, a man has a duty to maintain his wife and children and such a wife and child or children have a right to be so maintained.

“The right of a Wife and child to maintenance is not contractual in nature. It is an obligation and may by law be compelled to do so subject to the husband’s degree, estate or circumstance.

“Even though the Applicant and the Respondent are not married, they have a child that binds them for life. That child is entitled to parental care and provision of necessaries by her father and should not suffer any disadvantage because of the circumstances of her birth.

“I hold that the Respondent is bound by law and good conscience to provide for the child he brought to this world and will be compelled by this court to take up parental responsibility for his child.”

Nollywood mourns as ‘Issakaba’ producer dies

Wednesday night cast a darkness upon Nollywood, as notable film producer and marketer, Chukwuka  Emelionwu, aka Kasvid, reportedly died in a ghastly motor accident.

His colleague, Chidi Nwokeabia gave a graphic description of the deceased last moment on a forum where many pour their hearts out on the man’s amiable nature.

He said: “A man travels 600 kilometers from Lagos to the east with his family, safe trip, nothing happens.

“The same man travels another 600 kilometers back to Lagos with his family, safe trip, nothing happens.

“Yet again after a few days he embarks on another trip of 600 kilometers to the east for a burial of a close relation, safe trip, nothing happens.

“Then after the burial, he heads back to his hometown Neni and just a few kilometers away from home, he is involved in an accident.  His car somersaults but he comes out alive and thankful to God for sparing his life but dazed.

“He walks away from the scene, desperate to make a call for help.  In his bid to cross the road, an oncoming vehicle hits him.  He is rushed to the hospital.  Today he is dead.

“Death, so after all your  “gra gra” this is all you can do?  Shame!

“Kasvid was an epitome of hard work.  He always was in the forefront of breaking new grounds.

“He was a very kind and down to earth young man.  He would humbly approach you if he thought there was something better you had to offer.

“Kas, God has something better to offer so He sent for you.  Go well and rest in peace.”

Kasvid who hailed from Neni, Anambra State, and was 50-year old will be remembered for some of the Nollywood hit movies of the early 2000, including ‘Issakaba’, ‘My Town’, ‘Fire for Fire’, ‘A Million Madness’, ‘GSM Connection’, ‘Mr. Ibu’, ‘Mr. Ibu in London’, ‘Aki and Pawpaw’, and ‘What Women Want’.

Described variously as a pleasant person, many actors and directors, and producers are said to owe the rise of their careers to the late Executive Producer.

Also downcast by the incident was his foremost film director, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen who recalled their moments together with other colleagues.

“Ah! Nollywood, these game changer films were all from the stable of Kasvid Productions, owned and ran by the fallen Nollywood hero, Chukwuka Emelionwu,” he cried. “Jesus Christ.. Na man fall so… Emeka Ani where are you… Coruma, Louis Isikaku, I am in tears… Moses of Mosco International Aba.. Your blockbuster partner is swallowed up in death… Charles Inojie, our smiling EP is consumed by man ‘s worst enemy called death… A team members worldwide see how helpless we have suddenly become… I am in tears… But who can explain this to me?… But we spoke some days back.. He didn’t hint me of this which is to come… Kasvid… Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen your director is broken, beaten and completely speechless…”

Former president of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Zik Zulu Okafor was also full of praise for the memories of the deceased:

He wrote on the social media: “What a life ! Kasvid. Calm. Soft spoken. Soft smiles.  And this quiet aura with an amiable primness. Yet a buoyant, innovative creative thinker. Hmmm, death is so ignorant, so disrespectful, so cruel. Is this the right prize it could give a man for his block-buster, game-changing movies? What a tragic irony! What a life! What a shame! But Kasvid, you have to laugh at death. It may have taken you away from us. But it can’t take away your works. So death is only foolish. Because you live on. You have victory….over the damn death! Yes. Yes you live. And you live on.  Peace my bro. Eternal peace I wish you. May your family, through God, draw strength from your amazing life. You were a Nollywood  exemplar. Peace now. Till we all meet again…Shalom!!!”

While president of Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Fred Amata described him as a “truly pleasant fellow” who also played soccer for the Nollywood team, incumbent president of AMP, Ralph Nwadike said he was “a great guy with a friendly smile always on his face.  Young in the industry, but legendary in his field of works.”

Good times for Babs Daramola

When great burdens are placed on unworthy people, they buckle under the strain. But that is not the portion of Babs Daramola, the new General Manager of Oodua FM, a popular radio station located in Ile-Ife. Having acquitted himself with a stellar record in his previous posts, it was no surprise that he stood head and shoulders above his peers as the anointed choice to steer Oodua FM to greater heights.

The graduate of Public Administration from the Lagos State University has been the toast of his bosses and fellow employees wherever he worked. He was a one-time special assistant on broadcast media to then Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi. He has also served in various capacities in several radio and television stations, emerging with a good record in every case.

With his impressive resume, it was a no-brainer that the chairman of the radio station, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, would snap him up before competitors would lure him away with better packages.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Kwara big boy, Prince Ayo Adedoyin, will be joining the race for the governorship seat of Kwara State come 2019. Indications are that the one-time chairman of Peacegate Group, a company that specialises in providing logistics service to the oil & gas, aviation, real estate and trading sectors of the economy, is determined on this matter and won’t allow his political ambition to go the way of his failed marriage to flower girl Ogwogwo Asemota.

The son of Prince Samuel Adedoyin of the Doyin Group fame is said to be currently trying to convince those who matter in the political dynamics of the state to be in his corner against other prominent individuals who have declared their intention to secure the number one seat.

Though no official declaration has been made yet, those in the know claim that the wealthy and well-connected dude is simply testing the waters while waiting for the right time to make his ambition public.

He was a year older last Wednesday, but he had a low key celebration.

Contentment swells the heart of Lanre Ogunlesi like an inflated balloon. The flamboyant head honcho of popular Sophisticat Fashion House could be forgiven for doing a gig in the full glare of the public as he cruised confidently into his 65th year on earth penultimate Friday. But rather than embark on a grandiose celebration, the popular dude ‘eloped’ with his wife to enjoy a quiet holiday in the picturesque serenity of the Italian Alps.

If Lanre and Modupe are two lovebirds, the Villa Eden, Merano, a private medical spa in the Italian Alps, is the temporary cage where they have chosen to ensconce and refresh themselves far from the maddening crowd as they savour the sweetness accumulated over 42 years of marriage.

The love between the Sophisticat boss and Modupe is like an old wine that grows more potent with age. Even as they metamorphosed over the years from friends and lovers to spouses and parents, they never once lost the thread that connected them together into an inextricable tandem.

Happy times for TY Bello at 40

Many people pass through life fulfilling other people’s desires but not their own. A select few, like reigning celebrity photographer Toyin Sokefun-Bello aka TY Bello, are lucky enough to make other people happy without compromising their own happiness. The mother of two was in cloud nine on Sunday as one of her dreams finally came true.

The queen of snapshots finally achieved her dream of securing a partnership with A-list camera company Camon. She was on social media to share the news even as she celebrated entering her fourth decade on earth.

There is no gainsaying that TY has achieved in a decade what many struggle to do in a lifetime. She has tasted success on the music scene, first in an all-girl band, and then as a soloist. She has served as the official photographer to a sitting president, earning kudos and connections aplenty in the process. She has also transformed the life of an ordinary bread seller in the blink of a camera shot.

The Ogun State-born singer, songwriter and photographer is also a grassroots philanthropist. She organises an annual photography contest to raise money for the less-privileged. This is besides being a director at Link-a-Child, an NGO that helps orphanages around the country.

It was a carnival-like atmosphere a few days ago in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as South-South elites flocked to the popular Hub Centre to celebrate with Major Owajironiche Lancelot Anyanya (rtd) and his siblings as they paid homage to their parents, Elder Lancelot Anyanya and his wife Lois.

It was double celebrations for the venerable old couple who trace their descent to Ataba in Andoni LGA, Rivers State. The occasion marked the 55th wedding anniversary of the senior couple as well as the 70th birthday of the matriarch of the family, Elder (Mrs) Lois Sobie Anyanya.

Expectedly, the Anyanya children were determined to make hay while the sun still shone on both parents, and the result was a wonderful occasion which had royalty, prominent politicians, captains of industry, military top brass, cultural and religious icons and other rank and file of the South-South nobility in attendance.

Leading the outpouring of tributes to the Anyanyas were Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani; former Minister of Transport, Abiye Sekibo, and past and present commissioners in Bayelsa and Rivers states, among others.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the real act of marriage lies in the heart and not in the church, ballroom or synagogue. While others spend fortune planning a wedding, former governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan, and his wife meticulously envisioned each little step in their marriage and how to deal with whatever arrow fate shoots in their way. Little wonder, as other unions collapse around them like castles of snow, theirs is still going strong after three decades.

Come next month, Uduaghan and his wife, Roli, will be celebrating 30 years of saying “I do” at a high octane shindig sure to attract the movers and shakers of high society. Though details of the momentous occasion are still under wraps, it is expected that the former governor will maximise his connections and deep pocket to throw a glamorous bash that will be remembered for years.

In a clime where wealth and pride go hand in hand, quiet and unassuming lifestyle is a forgotten virtue among the rich and the famous. But one man who has risen above the din to command legendary status is Alhaji Rasak Akanni Okoya of the Eleganza fame.

The foremost industrialist has long cemented his legacy in the annals of history. Little wonder high society was out in full force to celebrate with him as he clocked 78. The grand birthday bash at the Oluwanisola Estate home of the Okoyas was a throwback to the classic occasions of yore with its all-white theme lending it a unique ambience in these days of loud and gaudy colours.

The queen of high society, Sade Okoya, was in her elements as she buzzed about in her capacity as the grand hostess. The palatial residence of the billionaire businessman became the temporary berth of prominent sons and daughters of Yorubaland who came to felicitate with one of their own.

On hand at the event were the first lady of Lagos State, Mrs Bolanle Ambode; Chief Samuel Adedoyin and his wife; Sir Olu Okeowo and his wife; Oba Dapo Tejuosho and Otunba Subomi Balogun, among others.
